2016 Award Winners

Baseball Junior Award: Ash Eaton

Ashley is being recognised with this year’s Junior Presidents award for his commitment and enthusiasm to the club. He is a willing, reliable and eager volunteer for the club who flies under the radar, just chipping in as required and expecting nothing in return.

Regularly assisting in the canteen and on the BBQ, ground set up, assisting coaches by throwing BP, base coaching and supporting the players in many different ways. Without hesitation he comes to the aide of committee members who just need a hand by grabbing a hammer, raking a diamond etc. He also helped out at our Greenies Cup and Try baseball days where he was running a station for prospective players.

Ashley stepped it up again this year by becoming an Assistant Coach for this season’s 14-3's team when their assistant coach moved away.

Ashley began baseball in the 2011-2012 season, in Under 12s. He was a year younger than the other boys but we did not have a team in the 11s age group. This did not hamper his attitude and spirit and took on the challenge with enthusiasm.  The following year he made division 1 in 12s and became a representative player in the then Association cup.

Baseball Senior Award: Kevin Raccani

1. adopted the new PCBL system quickly and faultlessly;

2. organised and polite allowing me to function in equipment duty;

3. contributing to every meeting, both GG and PCBL

4. generously offering and arranging key players to fill up Grades

5. In his own the team plays as a squad. Meaning if your are a catcher then you will get some time behind the plate each game. As a batter you will be surrounded by capable hitters, not isolated at the bottom of the order.

 Club Person of the Year Award 2015/16: Andrew Wright

Andrew has been a member of the club for many years and held the committee position of Treasurer for 5 years. He has dedicated many hours in managing the clubs finances and all the running around, juggling and balancing that this role entails. Andrew is a person who puts in much more to the club in so many other ways, he will be found at working bees, on the bbq, at the try days running skill stations, managing and coaching teams, he is so often the first to put his hand up when someone is away or needs help.

Steve Dalgairns Award 2015/16:  Nathan Clissold

Nathan has been an integral part of the Greenway coaching team both winter and summer whilst along with balancing this with Ryde Representative coaching that has lead teams to Grand Finals, State Championships and National tournaments. Nathan is a passionate Greenaway member and has been with the club since first playing ball as a junior, he is seen as not just a coach but as a mentor and friend to all. Having coached and played with the SWBL 1st, 2nd  and 3rd divisions, no mean feat along with running the BBQ and canteen at all home events, Nathan is tireless in his dedication to the development and growth of baseball at our club and in the wider baseball community.

Meet Caitlin Wilde

CW1Well we thought it was time to sing Caitlin’s praises on the diamonds this year with both baseball and softball and what a big year it has been so far.

Caitlin played baseball for the NSW Country U16’s and placed 4th in the Nationals held in Canberra (11th -16th January 2016).  A week long tournament that the girls played hard and had lots of fun too.  Caitlin received the MVP for the team and her batting stats of 526 ranked her the top of her team and in the top 10 for the tournament.

In late 2015 Caitlin along with 86 other girl’s trialled for the U15 NSW Softball Metro and 2 teams were selected.  From the 17th – 23rd January Caitlin played at Redlands, QLD in the U15 NSW Green team and after playing 11 games made the final.  A tough battle was played out with NSW Orange for us to come off with the silver medal.  Caitlin was picked as DH for the final series.  Another week of playing the sport she loves.  Again played some great ball and lots of laughs with a great team of girls.

CW2Late January the Hornsby U17’s Representative team played in the Australia Day Tournament held in Canberra over the long weekend, Caitlin had been selected into the U17’s and the team had a great tournament receiving Bronze for their efforts.

It didn’t end there, Caitlin trialled and was selected into the Broken Bay team to play at the NSWCCC tournament held on the 17th February.

She recently trialled and has been selected to play for the Hornsby U15 Representative team and the Junior International Challenge to be held at Blacktown International Sports Park over Easter.

Lastly she has just won, with her team mates, the Junior League Grand Final last Friday Night.

Yikes and its only March.

A Grade Premiers

Congratulations to our A Grade team on being Premiers, after a hard fought season against arch rivals Winston Hills.

After just giving up the minor premiership to them a week ago, our boys came out strong and blew them of the park and never looked like letting them get in the game.

9 innings played, 12-3 scoreline, 0 walks issued, a home run, and obviously plenty of runs and rbi's shared between the team
