Greenway Park Grounds Procedures

Before The Game

Every team is responsible for setting up its own diamond for play. The following guides are provided to help parents and players (please don't leave it to the Coach of the team):

  • Junior teams - please note that fair/foul lines will be already marked by a member of the Grounds Committee before the first game of the day.
    • Check the notice board outside the Amenities Block to see if there is a game scheduled for your diamond after your game finishes.
    • If you are the first team playing on the diamond for the day, pick up the equipment which will have been assembled for you at the Equipment Room.
    • If playing on diamonds 1, 2, 3 or 4, drag the cut-out ("dirt") areas smooth if required.
    • If playing on any of the internal diamonds, assemble the back net and lay out the dugout benches
    • Install the Pitchers Plate
    • Remove anchor sleeves (if playing on diamonds 1, 2, 3 or 4) and install the bases
  • Senior teams
    • Generally speaking, much the same as above, except that equipment will already be in situ from previous junior teams when you arrive
    • You are responsible for marking fair/foul lines if they are not in place, or have become scuffed from junior play.

After The Game

Every time a team plays or trains at Greenway Park, it is expected that the diamond will be left in good condition. This means:

  • If the last game scheduled to train or play for the day on that diamond, remove the bases and cover the base anchor sleeves.
  • If there is another game scheduled for that diamond, leave the bases and pitching plate in place.
  • If playing on diamonds 1, 2, 3 or 4, level/smooth the cut-out ("dirt") areas and baselines using levellers provided (in the equipment room for diamonds 2, 3 or 4, and in the diamond 1 equipment box if playing on diamond 1)
  • Rake loose dolorite off grass along base paths and back onto the cutout areas
  • Rebuild the mound and home plate area where foot holes have been worn by pitchers and batters, respectively
  • Replace any loose divots in turf areas, and stamp down to encourage root growth
  • Dispose of trash in and around field and spectator areas
  • Sweep and clean dugouts
  • If no other team scheduled to use the diamond following your game or training session, return all equipment (non-permanent bases, pitching plates, benches, ground equipment, garbage bins and scorers tables) to their rightful places. The following video is provided to assist newer members on correct storage locations of club assets.
