Welcome Giants!
We hope you are all staying safe and healthy.
As we prepare for the 2020/21 baseball/softball season, the Greenway Giants committee is following the guidelines provided by Baseball NSW, NSW Office of Sport and NSW Health in order to plan for a safe and successful return to the season for our participants, officials and spectators.
As a first step, all sporting clubs must appoint a COVID Officer to ensure that the COVID-19 Safe Venue Plan is implemented whilst training and/or matches are ongoing at the venue. Tanya Rose has volunteered to take on the COVID 19 Officer role for Greenway Giants, however, it will take every official, participant and spectator to ensure these safety plans are enacted and a safe and successful season follows. We will keep you updated of the latest safety guidelines in future communication. In the meantime, please refer to the link below to learn more about the plans for the safe return of baseball.
BNSW Return to Baseball Roadmap
Womens

The girls had a good first hit out in the Greenway Challenge. A bit rusty, but lots of fun and played in great spirit. Everyone went well except for the dodgy starting pitcher (me, Peter Neads). Really good hitting from our junior girls, Abbey and Cayla and a smokin catch at short stop by Cayla.
Seniors
The Greenway Challenge started last Saturday and all reports indicated the first round was a success with 57 players playing and a broad array of skills on display. This weekend the Challenge continues on Saturday and then resumes 16th August following a 1 week break.

The PCBL is scheduled to start the summer season 5th Sept and teams need to be finalised for registration by 17th August. Any players interested in playing should connect with team managers or alternatively contact seniors@greenwaygiants.org.au
We held our first try day over the weekend. It was great to see some new faces come down on what was a turbulent afternoon of not knowing if the weather was going to hold out for us. Unfortunately we have had to cancel our Try Day for the 29th August due to us not being able to use the Ground.
We are currently in the process of booking with Cherrybrook Village to promote our Club, so if you see us there, come say hello.

This season we will be offering Spring Training to our registered players from 8 to 12 years old. We will run sessions over the course of 4 weeks commencing mid September. There will be no additional fees involved but you will need to be registered to attend. Keep a look out on the website and social media for updates.
Club Champions!
Congratulations to all for winning Club Champions for 2019/20 season of baseball. We are honoured that we had so many great teams/players last year that got us to the top of the table in so many divisions – let’s do it again this season!

Registration Now Open
Registrations this season are a little different – here’s why…
Greenway Giants are committed to doing the best by its members regardless of the workload. It is vitally important to us that kids get to play baseball. We recognise that this year has been extremely difficult for so many families and we want to be able to offer help to anyone that has lost their job or are in financial distress due to COVID. The online system unfortunately at this stage does not offer any payment options to those that may need it. So here’s what it will look like to register:
You will go to the registration link which takes you to the Sport HQ system. Log in and complete the form. You’ll notice that fees listed are only BA/BNSW fees. You will need to pay these fees. The Greenway portion of fees will be invoiced separately. You will not be registered to play baseball with Greenway until both fee components are paid. If you are a family that needs a little help this season, please reach out to our President. We are here to help!!!
Another change is that there are several registration links this season. Sport HQ has split RHBL (Juniors), Women and PCBL (Seniors) into separate entities. This means there is a different registration link for each.
It might sound a bit confusing however we will ensure it is as smooth as possible and as always please reach out to registrar@greenwaygiants.org.au if you have any registration questions.

Grading
For those who don’t know much about what grading at Greenway is about, here’s a little bit of information to help you. At Greenway we have Divisions in each age group as you advance from Zooka. The following is a guide only as ages vary depending upon ability.
Age Group | Team Type | Information |
3 – 6 Years old | Little Giants | Played Saturday Mornings |
7 – 8 Years old | T-Ball | Played Saturday Mornings |
8 – 10 Years old | Zooka | Played Saturday Mornings with a pitching machine |
9 – 11 Years old | Rookie Live | Played Saturday Mornings. This is the first taste of live pitching for the kids. It is a year of learning live ball. So players are able to pitch 4 balls and then the Tee is brought out so the batter can have a chance to hit and then play continues |
9 – 11 Years old | Minors | This is the division below Majors. There is no tee for this grade and above. Played Saturday Mornings. |
9 – 11 Years old | Majors | This is our Division 1 team – it is a graded team and they play on Friday nights |
12 – 13 Years old | Junior League | There is a Division 1 team which is graded and a Division 2 team not graded. Division 1 is played Friday nights – Division 2 are played Saturdays |
14 – 15 Years old | Senior League | There is a Division 1 team which is Graded and Division 2 and 3 which are not graded – Division 1 is played Friday nights – Division 2 and 3 on Saturdays |
16 – 18 Years old | Bigs | This is ungraded – games are played on Saturdays |
PCBL | 14+ | This is our Seniors League with graded and non graded teams – games are played Saturday or Sundays. |
Womens | 14+ | A grade and B grade. A grade play Saturday afternoons and B grade play Friday nights |
At Greenway the idea is if your child is interested in participating in the representative path in Baseball they will need to grade into a Division 1 team. All players are welcome to grade, however it is only a requirement if you wish to try out to make a Division 1 team (Majors, JL1, SL1).
All Division 1 teams are played on a Friday night. All other grades are played on Saturday mornings.
Our grading date is Monday 24th August 6pm at Greenway. This will be a closed session to spectators due to COVID-19 restrictions and all children who wish to grade must first register here.
If you have any queries regarding grading, please contact our Registrar
Batting Cages

Our Batting Cages have had hand sanitiser installed to be used by our players and coaches due to COVID-19.
Please make sure you have booked your time and wait for confirmation if you wish to use the batting cages – this is a requirement for all. Please email our President

Also respect the batting cages and take your rubbish with you and no metal cleats to be worn.
If you have plastic bottles, cans or glass bottles to dispose of, please use the red bin so that we can recycle and use for the canteen for stock items.
Grounds
Greenway Dugouts have had the installation of some new bat holders thanks to Peter Neads. Hand Sanitiser will also be installed in each dugout during the season with our new holders.

Canteen
Thanks to all that supported Greenway by purchasing some of the delights on Sunday 12th July – we had a successful day and thank you all for your business.
Uniforms
If you are still holding on to one of your borrowed uniforms jersey or shorts from Little Giants, please contact Amy at uniforms@greenwaygiants.com.au to arrange to return it. If we do not receive your uniform you will be sent an invoice for the payment of the loaned item.
Sponsorship
Do you have your own business? Would you like to be a sponsor? We are very close to finalising our training shirts (see under Merchandise).
If you know anyone or you would be interested in sponsorship, please contact Helen Coggins sponsorship@greenwaygiants.org.au
We have a few different sponsorship packages to choose from starting at $250.
Social 7’s

Social 7’s will be running from late September/October this year. We are very keen to get as many teams involved, so start talking to your friends & family to get a team together. More details will be uploaded on the website and social channels soon.
Merchandise
As we mentioned in the last newsletter, Elite Sports at Castle Hill will now be our home for our uniforms (excluding white pants and belts – these are still available from our gold sponsor, Red Stitches)

We are excited to announce that this year we will be providing our players with these training shirts – who doesn’t like a bit of merch!
If you are keen to be a sponsor, your name/logo will also be included, so be quick to sign up for sponsorship to get your name on the shirt and have your kids or Seniors start advertising for you. The shirts will also be able to be purchased through Elite Sports.

GIANTS Hoodies available now. If you would like to place an order for this to keep you warm please email juniors by noon on Sunday 2nd August with your required size.

I will be placing our first orders on Sunday 2nd August – check our social pages for more details.
