A changing of the Guard

We would like to let everyone know we have had our AGM and our new committee has been formed. There has been some comings and goings this year and you will find an updated list on our Committee Page. Most notable is the change in Club President Mark Pellow, he has finished his tenure and Joe Nati has now stepped up to the challenge of leading this great club.

Please help us in thanking Mark (and of course Leeanne) for all that they have done to grow and develop the club over the past 3 years. We are sure it has been quite challenging at times, although now you can sit back and see it was all worthwhile, especially when it all culminated in us winning the Prestigious Club of the Year Award from the RHBL.

Thank you again and we will see you around the diamonds.

As for our new President, Joe Nati (a man we are sure needs no introduction) he assures us he is up for the challenge, and we cannot wait to see where he takes the club next.

New Umpire Coordinator

scott wCongratulations to Scott Weekley who has spent the last few months umpiring many a game of baseball.

He has done such a wonderful job and is rising through the ranks quickly, so much so, he was recently out doing the State Little League Championships held at BISP.

After an awesome effort at the Little League he was then asked to help with the Junior League Championship Finals Series.

Scott has also just accepted the role as our clubs new Umpire Coordinator.

Well done Scott and keep up the good work.

2016 Award Winners

Baseball Junior Award: Ash Eaton

Ashley is being recognised with this year’s Junior Presidents award for his commitment and enthusiasm to the club. He is a willing, reliable and eager volunteer for the club who flies under the radar, just chipping in as required and expecting nothing in return.

Regularly assisting in the canteen and on the BBQ, ground set up, assisting coaches by throwing BP, base coaching and supporting the players in many different ways. Without hesitation he comes to the aide of committee members who just need a hand by grabbing a hammer, raking a diamond etc. He also helped out at our Greenies Cup and Try baseball days where he was running a station for prospective players.

Ashley stepped it up again this year by becoming an Assistant Coach for this season’s 14-3's team when their assistant coach moved away.

Ashley began baseball in the 2011-2012 season, in Under 12s. He was a year younger than the other boys but we did not have a team in the 11s age group. This did not hamper his attitude and spirit and took on the challenge with enthusiasm.  The following year he made division 1 in 12s and became a representative player in the then Association cup.

Baseball Senior Award: Kevin Raccani

1. adopted the new PCBL system quickly and faultlessly;

2. organised and polite allowing me to function in equipment duty;

3. contributing to every meeting, both GG and PCBL

4. generously offering and arranging key players to fill up Grades

5. In his own the team plays as a squad. Meaning if your are a catcher then you will get some time behind the plate each game. As a batter you will be surrounded by capable hitters, not isolated at the bottom of the order.

 Club Person of the Year Award 2015/16: Andrew Wright

Andrew has been a member of the club for many years and held the committee position of Treasurer for 5 years. He has dedicated many hours in managing the clubs finances and all the running around, juggling and balancing that this role entails. Andrew is a person who puts in much more to the club in so many other ways, he will be found at working bees, on the bbq, at the try days running skill stations, managing and coaching teams, he is so often the first to put his hand up when someone is away or needs help.

Steve Dalgairns Award 2015/16:  Nathan Clissold

Nathan has been an integral part of the Greenway coaching team both winter and summer whilst along with balancing this with Ryde Representative coaching that has lead teams to Grand Finals, State Championships and National tournaments. Nathan is a passionate Greenaway member and has been with the club since first playing ball as a junior, he is seen as not just a coach but as a mentor and friend to all. Having coached and played with the SWBL 1st, 2nd  and 3rd divisions, no mean feat along with running the BBQ and canteen at all home events, Nathan is tireless in his dedication to the development and growth of baseball at our club and in the wider baseball community.
